ABOUT WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN & VICTIMS’ EMPOWERMENT:Women’s Association for Women & Victims’ Empowerment (WAVE-Gambia) began by supporting and empowering victims in The Gambia’s transitional justice process. We have since expanded our mission to advocate for the rights of women & girls, victims, and psychological/trauma support, particularly for the women and victims in remote areas. WAVE is committed to activism, and awareness raising, embracing an intersectional approach to combat gender inequality and foster accountability in The Gambia. WAVE is also involved in gender-focused research, strategic litigation and have developed various knowledge resources. While being unique in our approach, we employ arts-based programs to facilitate trauma healing for human rights violation survivors.
ABOUT THE COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE’S ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:The Communications Associate has direct duties to the organisation and shall assist on all activities and other aspects. Roles & responsibilities of the communications Associate, are as follows:
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop Communication and Visibility Plan, implement communication campaigns and strategies,maintaining media relations and databases, perform media outreach and maintain digital media archives (photos, videos, audios)
Develop and implement communications strategies: creating and executing effective strategies to promote WAVE-Gambia’s activities, and knowledge products, ensuring alignment with the organization’s overall goals and objectives.
Coordinate the development of innovative project information, dissemination and awareness raising strategy and tools, collaborating, and working closely with other units to align communication strategies.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with media outlets and manage a media database.
Promote the organization on social media: Developing and implementing strategies to maintain WAVE-Gambia’s social media platforms, creating, and distributing content, and engaging with the target audience.
Managing internal communications: Ensuring effective communication within the organization including by creating and distributing internal communications materials, such newsletters, etc.
Event coordination: Coordinate promotional events, supporting logistics related to events.
Conduct surveys and raise awareness on WAVEs activities and projects, oversee and support implementation of WAVEs project information, dissemination and awareness raising strategy.
Write and edit content: producing various materials such as publications, website content, press releases, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing materials that communicate WAVE-Gambia’s activities, products, and services, and support the dissemination of information.
Arrange interviews, act as a spokesperson for the organization, increase citizens’ awareness and engagement including in online discussions on ongoing project activities and partner/stakeholder engagements.
Prepare and manage the organization’s budget regarding communication.

EXPERIENCES
The core competencies of the candidate should include Communication, teamwork, planning and organizing, accountability, creativity, commitment to continuous learning and technological knowledge and awareness. Managerial competencies include leadership, vision, empowering others, building trust, and managing performance.
At least three (3) years of progressive responsible professional experience in the area of public relations, media and communications or related fields;
SKILLS SET:

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
-Journalism, Communications and Public Relations or combination of relevant academic qualifications and experience in related area and/or a demonstrable track record of achievements.
Language:
-Fluency in written and spoken English is essential, understanding and speaking of at least 1 local language is required.
